I am reading an article for a research paper on video games. I get to this section talking about Doom and Quake and I find this statement:
For girls, the action in Quake is abhorrent and the plot nothing more than an exercise in aggression (Perils of the Princess: Gender and Genre in Video Games by Sharon Sherman)
Excuse me, but I happen to find the action in Quake, as well as Doom, Wolfenstein, Heretic, Duke Nukem, Blood, etc to not only be not abhorrent, but quite enjoyable. These are some of my favorite games to play. I don’t give two shits about the stereotypical view of girls hating violence and being the ultimate peaceful beings. If I want to fucking blow the head off of a cyberdemon with a BFG, then I will do so and have a fucking great time doing so.
Killing cybernetic demons is fun no matter who you are.
"For girls, the action in Quake is abhorrent and the plot nothing more than an exercise in aggression"
How ironic is this, it’s like they’ve completely forgotten about that one girl that whooped John Romero’s ass in a Quake deathmatch, ended up being married to him for a couple of years, and arguably the very first “girl gamer” in history

“I was trying to get hired at Microsoft because I love Halo,” wrote Hughes, “They told me there was a position available at Rare and I was like ‘who?’
Another recent hire, artist Jenny Clarke, explained how she is unable to reconcile the art style of old Rare games with their modern hits.
“I love the art style of Kinect Sports but when I saw the past work of Rare, I could not believe how ugly they all were,” lamented Clarke,
“I couldn’t believe that a company who made something as ugly as Donkey Kong Country could produce something so beautiful like Kinect Sports: Season Two”
That is when I knew I could leave my mark on this company by helping us move away from our ugly past and into the bright future of whatever we make next on the Kinect.”
“I don’t know how these guys have managed to not play or hear of games like Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, or even Donkey Kong 64,” explained Mayles, “Many of them just scoffed and said that those were old Nintendo games that only children played. I could not believe my ears. It’s like Microsoft is hiring people that will effectively destroy the company. Even Viva Piñata was trashed by these people. Either they wanted to work on the Kinect or on something similar to Halo or Forza Motorsport.”
You can just hear the things shorting out in my mind right now
Yo. pr4gaming is the videogames version of Onion News
Actually, nevermind. Sorry, but if I want to get this one done, I should do proper research on everything what’s going to be about.
Probably tomorrow. But yeah I won’t just let this one rest
As much as I wish not to involve myself in trouble, I just have to write about something. So, as of right now I’m preparing a post which might offend a certain group in specific, and sadly I just can’t help it, but I feel the obligation to open some people’s eyes a little bit, for their own good.
Whoever guesses what I’m about to write about, eh, I dunno, he gets a follow or something (?)
